Let's Talk ... common reasons why our feet hurt !
Hallux Valgus
Bunion Pain
Bunions are divided into stages,
I - IV, based on the amount
of joint deviation. Patients will often describe embarrassment with the appearance of their bunion, more so than pain in
the early stages. Eventually as stages progress, painful symptoms develop and
require medical/surgical intervention.
Bunion X-ray
 Stage IV
Radiographs help determine the precise procedure to perform.
Measurements are taken of the angles of the foot which guide surgical decision making.
The lifestyle and activity level of the patient is an important consideration also as to the type of procedure performed.
Heel & Arch Pain
Heel spurs are a small sickle shaped boney prominence on the bottom of the heel bone. The culprit is usually repetitive pressure. Bone responds to force by forming more bone. The arch muscle called the plantar fascia is attached to the heel bone and often becomes inflamed.
Heel Spur X-ray
Heel spurs can respond to conservative care. If surgery is indicated, they are removed
in a closed procedure using small incisions and inserting an arthroscope. The amount of recovery time is highly variable but is much less than an open surgical procedure.
